About us

Critical Grass is a collection of Bay Area musicians who discovered each other by accident at a Berkeley restaurant. Brought together by their shared love of bluegrass, bluegrass’s musical cousins, and great songwriters from Norman Blake to Kathy Kallick, the band has evolved from that casual brunch gig to a group that celebrates their obligation to share and perpetuate music that brings joy to their community. Through a meticulous choice of material and the combined musicality of Chris Quale (guitar and vocals), Jeremy Reinhard (banjo, guitar, and vocals), John Haupert, (mandolin and vocals), Leah Wollenberg (fiddle and vocals), and Lee Jones (bass and band wrangling), Critical Grass builds a sound that is dynamic and fun-loving.
